EDITORIAL
In November of 2020, I was walking my dog when I noticed a little lady unlocking the doors to Johnnie’s Antiques. Living in the neighborhood for the past five years, I never saw anyone go in or out of the shop. After introducing myself, I spent the rest of the afternoon getting to know the owner, Dorothy Singleton McPhaul.
I knew I had to share her story.
Over the next few months, I met with Dorothy at her home where she showed me all her antique treasures. She lent me stacks of books, photographs, and newspaper articles about her family’s local antique business that dates back four generations. The morning after our interview, a car accident badly damaged her shop. Writing this story has been a labor of love and I am so excited to share!
It’s about entrepreneurship, community, tenacity, history and heart. Dorothy is a true inspiration. The Queen of Antiques!
Thank you to Tribeza Magazine for featuring my story.
